Smartphone Contract for Kids

Before we give you your smartphone, there are some things we want to go over with you that we want to make sure we all agree on.

1. It is a privilege for you to have a phone. It really is our phone, we bought it and we pay the monthly charge. If the rules are not followed, we will take the phone back.

2. We will always know the password.

3. Always answer when we call you.

4. We will keep the phone at night and return it to you in the morning.

5. Keep it on silent during school.

6. If you lose it, it falls into the toilet, or gets broken, you are responsible for the replacement cost or repairs.

7. Don’t involve yourself in conversations that are hurtful to others. Don’t text, email, or say anything you would not say in person.

8. Most parents check their children’s texts so whatever you write, know that their parents are reading it too. We will be monitoring yours as well.

9. When you are allowed to have a browser on your phone, only look and read things you would openly share with us. We will have access to everything you view.

10. Turn it off, silence it, or put it away when you are in public. Don’t walk down the street, cross a street, etc. while looking at your phone. Pay attention to your surroundings.

11. Don’t send or receive inappropriate pictures of yourself or others. Once those photos are in cyberspace, they never go away. We know that you wouldn’t, but some kids are sending photos like this without thinking of the serious ramifications.

12. Remember, this phone is a privilege to have and we expect you to be responsible with it and to follow our rules.
