5th Grade
Transitioning to middle school can be stressful and scary, so we have a special time just for 5th graders to talk with them about what to expect, what makes middle school awesome, and what they can do to relieve their anxiety.
This talk lays the groundwork for healthy choices as we discuss friend groups, social media, managing everyday stress, reaching out for help, vaping and other substances to stay away from.
We even talk about what to do if they get lost, which is hands down their #1 fear! Students leave feeling empowered and encouraged.
Middle School
We have so much fun with our middle school presentation! It’s interactive, engaging, humorous - yet extremely impactful as we address some serious topics like vaping, peer pressure, negative choices teens might make, anxiety, depression, self-image, and the media’s influence on all of the above.
We tackle awkward topics like the addictive nature of pornography and the roller coaster of hormones, and we predict their futures using M*A*S*H (remember that game?!). Throughout our presentation, we weave in their ability to start over and get back on track when they make mistakes, and their unchanging value and immeasurable worth.
We conclude our two-day presentation with student improv using random props to get out of a peer pressure situation - and they absolutely love it!
High School
In high school, we typically present to freshmen health classes, diving deeper into some of the topics covered in middle school. Everything we discuss is anchored in the reality that each and every one of them matters and has worth that goes beyond their grades and achievements. We use personal stories, humor, videos, dry eraser boards, cups, a tape measure and student volunteers to keep audiences engaged and constantly thinking, “How could this choice affect my story now and in the future?” We delve into academic pressures, depression, anxiety, suicide, positive influences, alcohol, prescription drug abuse, fentanyl and marijuana. We discuss the addictive nature of pornography and how it impacts relationships. We talk about healthy relationships, physical sexual boundaries and respect for self and others.
Students report that this presentation is unlike any they have heard before and more than 95% of the hundreds of thousands of high schoolers we have spoken to indicate it empowered them to make healthy decisions that will affect their future..
